Is Hikikomori a self-imposed isolation? Is it a fact of losing out in the tides of the constant changing social structure? Is it a voluntary behavior or involuntary behavior? What are the current interventions? Is what we believe of the facts today is true? Is family a part of the intervention?

I just wanted to comment on the voluntary and involuntary behavior aspect. I would probably be of the opinion that it is a voluntary behaviour, bearing in mind that the person feels that they have no other options. They probably believe that it's obvious that given that feel they have a weak character it would be clear to them that their only options will always be based on decisions suited for their weak character. They desire to change, but they can't because they have determined they will fail and therefore do with their self defeating attitude. I am not saying that it is silly at all to come to this conclusion when they have other choices. But it's more that the other options appear impossible given the failures of the past. Of course change is never an easy option, but to decide it is impossible for them is the problem.
This is just a small opinion of my own and am no expert.
